Woman in the Moon, Fritz Lang’s 1929 classic! Written, produced and directed by essentially the same team that brought us Metropolis, Frau was quite technically correct for its time: the ‘astronauts’ search for water once on the moon, the rocket is launched with a countdown sequence. Hermann Oberth and Willy Ley were both technical consultants on this project and Wernher von Braun was obviously impressed enough to paint the movie’s logo on the first V2 rocket’s fins.
The movie is based on another Thea von Harbou novel – Die Frau im Monde (The Woman on the Moon).
