In 1954, the film Tobor the Great, featuring a telepathically controlled giant robot, was released. That film is not in the public domain and therefore can’t be found here. However, in 1957, someone decided to turn the film into a television series called Here Comes Tobor. The pilot episode, entitled Tobor and the Atomic Submarine, gives us some idea of why it never made it.
However, it’s still a fun piece to watch. Obviously targeted to the juvenile market (the kid is cleared for the highest top secret secrets!): what kid wouldn’t want his very own giant robot? Probably would have made a great toy line – if they could work out the telepathic control thing….
